Encouragment . . . for the Journey

Prevailing Peace in the midst of the Storm

All of us go through storms in life. There are times we feel the waves pounding as they wash over us, making us feel as if we will drown. Storms come in ALL sizes and intensities and to ALL people. We cannot escape them. James 1:2-4 encourages us with how we are to react when the storms blow our way. "Consider it pure joy, my brothers (sisters), whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."

Our family just found out that my Mom has pre-leukemia, treatable but not curable. Praise the Lord for His peace in the midst of this storm and His incredible power to face the days ahead. He knows the plans He has for my Mom and we can trust Him to accomplish them according to His timetable. Don't get me wrong, we're praying for her healing because, after all He is the great physician, but we're leaving the results in His capable hands.

What storm of adversity are you facing now? Financial disaster? Poor Health? Rejection? Insecurity? Loss of a job? Loss of a loved one? Worry or anxiety, etc?

I love the words I was reading in a commentary from Warren Wiersbe right after we found out about my Mom. "No storm is greater than our God." Amen!!!!! "If you trust Him, the storm will bring glory to God. If life is stormy just now, worship Him and wait on Him. The storm will pass, and He will give you peace."

Pastor Chuck Swindoll says, "What comes from the Lord because it is impossible for humans to manufacture? Wisdom. What comes from humans because it is impossible for the Lord to experience it? Worry. And what is it that brings wisdom and dispels worry? Worship.

Psalm 29:1-1,
is a great prescription for any storm you might be facing right now. Enjoy it's beauty. I would encourage you to take the time to read it out loud. Let the words penetrate deep within you. Your storm, like mine, probably won't go away, but you'll find that your focus will be on the One who can bring you peace in the midst of it.

1."Ascribe to the LORD, O mighty ones, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.

2.Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name; worship the LORD in the splendor of His holiness.

3.The voice of the LORD is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the LORD thunders over the mighty waters.

4.The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is majestic.

5.The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars; the LORD breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon.

6.He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, Sirion like a young wild ox.

7.The voice of the LORD strikes with flashes of lightning.

8.The voice of the LORD shakes the desert; the LORD shakes the Desert of Kadesh.

9.The voice of the LORD twists the oaks and strips the forests bare. And in His temple all cry, "Glory!"

10.The LORD sits enthroned over the flood; the LORD is King forever.

11.The LORD gives strength to His people; the LORD blesses His people with peace."
